Yanga SC Midfielder Khalid Aucho Sidelined for Three Weeks Due to Thigh Injury
Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga SC) has confirmed that their key midfielder, Khalid Aucho, will be out of action for approximately three weeks after sustaining a thigh muscle injury during their recent NBC Premier League match against Coastal Union.
The match, which took place yesterday, saw Yanga SC secure a competitive victory, but the win came at a cost as one of their most experienced and influential players had to be substituted due to discomfort in his thigh. According to a medical update released by the club’s media team, Khalid Aucho underwent a series of tests following the game, and results confirmed he had suffered a muscle strain in his thigh, an injury that will keep him out of competitive football for close to a month.
The club’s statement read in part: “Our midfielder Khalid Aucho sustained a muscle injury in his thigh during our match against Coastal Union. After a thorough medical examination, the injury has been classified as a grade two strain, which will require approximately three weeks of rest and rehabilitation.”
Aucho, a Ugandan international and a central figure in Yanga SC’s midfield, has been instrumental in the club’s recent success both domestically and on the continental stage. Known for his work rate, defensive discipline, and leadership on the pitch, Aucho's absence will undoubtedly be felt in the upcoming fixtures, particularly with Yanga SC entering a crucial phase of the season where every point matters.
Club officials have assured fans that the player is receiving the best medical care and that his recovery is being closely monitored by the club’s medical team. “We are working diligently to ensure that Khalid receives all the support he needs during this recovery period,” the statement added. “Our physiotherapists and medical staff are following a strict rehabilitation program aimed at helping him return to full fitness as safely and quickly as possible.”
Yanga SC head coach, Miloud himudi, also commented on the injury during a post-match press conference, expressing disappointment but also confidence in his squad's depth. “Khalid is a very important player for us, both on and off the pitch. His injury is a setback, no doubt, but we have capable players who can step up and fill the gap in the meantime. We wish him a speedy recovery.”
The midfielder is expected to miss at least three upcoming league matches and potentially a CAF Champions League fixture, depending on the progression of his recovery. The club is hopeful, however, that with the current treatment plan, Aucho could make a return to the squad in time for the final stretch of the league campaign.
Supporters have already taken to social media to express their well wishes for Aucho, with hashtags such as #GetWellSoonAucho and #YangaFamily trending shortly after the news broke.
As Yanga SC continues their title chase, the technical bench will now need to reassess their midfield options and perhaps rotate players to maintain balance and competitiveness in the absence of their midfield general.
