The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has officially received an appeal filed by Young Africans SC against the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB), and Simba SC following the decision by TPLB to postpone the highly anticipated Kariakoo Derby, which was originally scheduled for March 8, 2025.
According to the letter from CAS, the respondentsβTFF, TPLB, and Simba SCβhave been given ten days from the date of receiving the notification to prepare and submit their defense.
The case will be heard under the expedited procedure with the reference number CAS 2025/A/11298, where all parties are expected to submit their evidence and arguments within the stipulated timeframe.
The postponement of the Kariakoo Derby, one of the most significant football fixtures in Tanzania, sparked controversy among stakeholders, especially Young Africans SC, who felt that the decision was unfair and could have implications on the integrity of the league. The club has argued that the decision by TPLB lacked proper justification and may have favored their arch-rivals, Simba SC.
Young Africans SC has taken the matter to CAS, seeking an urgent ruling that would either overturn the decision or provide compensation for what they perceive as an unjust postponement. The club believes that the integrity of the league is at stake and that such decisions set a dangerous precedent for future matches.
CAS, as the supreme body for resolving sports-related disputes globally, has the mandate to hear cases related to unfair rulings, breach of regulations, and any form of administrative malpractice within sporting organizations. The tribunal will analyze whether the decision to postpone the match was in accordance with the existing regulations and whether all teams were treated fairly in the process.
It is expected that all three respondentsβTFF, TPLB, and Simba SCβwill submit their respective arguments detailing why the decision to postpone the match was necessary. This could include logistical concerns, security issues, or other unforeseen circumstances that might have warranted the change in schedule.
Young Africans SC, on the other hand, will be required to prove that the decision was unjust and that it negatively impacted their team, either competitively or financially. They may also provide evidence of bias or irregularities in the way the decision was reached.
Several possible outcomes could emerge from this case:
The case has sparked widespread debate among football fans, analysts, and stakeholders in Tanzania. Some believe that Young Africans SC is right to challenge the decision, arguing that fairness in scheduling is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the league. Others, however, suggest that TPLB may have had valid reasons for postponing the match, especially if there were security concerns or other unavoidable circumstances.
The outcome of this case will have significant implications for the governance of football in Tanzania, particularly in how disputes are handled within the league. If CAS rules in favor of Young Africans SC, it could set a precedent for clubs to challenge league decisions in the future. On the other hand, if the ruling favors TFF and TPLB, it may reinforce the authority of these governing bodies in making scheduling decisions.
As the case progresses, all eyes will be on CAS and its decision, which will determine whether Young Africans SC's appeal holds merit. The tribunalβs ruling will not only affect the scheduling of the Kariakoo Derby but may also influence the way football administration is conducted in Tanzania going forward.
The final verdict will be a landmark decision in Tanzanian football history, potentially shaping the governance of the sport for years to come.

I do believe that CAS will go far and crosscheck the whole mandatory governance of chairman of TFF Walace karia on how he is ruling the Tanzanian football by favouring his favourite team (simba). recheck several games between; dodoma jiji vs simba Fontain gate vs simba jkt tanzania vs simba namungo vs simba azam vs simba there are alot of problems in Tanzanian league that has been favoured by Karia to defend his simba
